English in Australia and New Zealand
The English language is one of the few ones that are spoken in a great number of countries. In the case of English, those countries tend to be quite distant from one another. Some of them have enjoyed long times of independent development, as the United States, others saw their national language being replaced by English because of the lack of independent development, as e.g. Ireland.

It may not be confusing that the way the language of England is used nowadays in all those different countries is not the same as in the mother country, whose Standard is taught in most countries, where English functions as a second language in school. Some differences may come from speech habits that got out of fashion in England, but remained in those regions far from the cultural centre of London. Others can be based on the substratum of the former language of the country.

Roger's Reference - Other Language Resources
Language is a fascinating topic. While it's not unique to the human species, our languages are probably the most structured and complex of all animals. With greater complexity however, comes also greater potential for confusion. Creativity is in there of course, somewhere, but I think that confusion is king.

Am I being pessimistic? No, I don't think so... nor am I disheartened. My point is this: When communicating with each other, the probability for misunderstanding the other is greater than that for actual understanding, in the first instance. Here are some of the resources to which I refer and that I recommend...

Lex Scripta: English Language Dictionaries
Essential Web Links for Queensland Lawyers. Essential Web Links for Queensland Lawyers first went on-line on 22 June 1998. Its success and popularity quickly exceeded the modest ambitions with which it was first created. English resources: dictionaries, miscellanious...

Lex Scripta, as the name implies, is intended primarily as a guide to finding Leges Scriptæ - written legal reference resources - wherever they exist on the Internet. But it is much more than a catalogue or index of legal reference sites. Through the links found on this site, practising members of the legal profession, as well as legal academics and students, should be able to locate any web-based resource likely to be useful in the course of their daily work.

Almost all of the linked sites provide free resources. There are some very worthwhile (and also some less worthwhile) pay-sites available on the internet for legal practitioners. The object of Lex Scripta is not, however, to provide unpaid advertising for pay-sites. Its object, rather, is to provide links to the huge resource of free sites which exist on the Internet.
