  1. How long has GEOS been teaching English?
    GEOS Gold Coast was established in 1997, GEOS Gold Coast is part of GEOS International Schools, a global network that has been operating since 1973!
  1. How far is the beach from GEOS Gold Coast?
    GEOS Gold Coast is only a 5 minute walk to the beautiful Surfers Paradise beach!
  1. What is the minimum enrolment period?
    You can study a minimum of 1 week.
  1. How many students are there in a class?
    There is an average of 16 students per class for General English and a maximum of 12 students in our Cambridge classes.
  1. What is the minimum age for study at GEOS Gold Coast?

    The minimum age for students in our ELICOS program is 18 years.  We offer English for Young Learners, for students aged between 8-15 years, periodically during the holiday seasons. Please check our courses section for more information.

  1. How many students are there at GEOS Gold Coast?
    GEOS Gold Coast currently has the capacity for 230 students from Europe, South America, Asia, Pacific Islands and the Arabic Gulf as of 2007.  Please have a look at our monthly nationality mix on our website.
  1. When is GEOS Gold Coast open?
    GEOS Gold Coast operates Monday – Friday 7:30 am – 5:30pm
  1. Can I study Part-time?
    Yes, we offer Part-time General English Courses
  1. What happens on my first day of school?
    On the first day of school:
    • Arrive at 8:15 am
    • We assess your English level with a speaking interview and a writing test.
    • Orientation
    • School & City tour
    • Commence class

  2. What do I have to bring for my first day of school?
    • Please bring your passport
    • Passport sized photo for your student ID card
    • Your address in Australia in a notebook
    • Pen & paper for studying
  1. What time do the classes start?
    At GEOS Gold Coast, we have a staggered timetable.  This means that we have classes that start at either
    • 8am – 2:10pm,
    • 9am – 3:10 pm or
    • 10am – 4:10pm

    What time you start depends on your English level.  You will get your timetable during Orientation on the first day of school.
  1. How many weeks do I need?
    How long you study depends on your current English level, your goals and also your visa restrictions.  If you want to have an idea of what English level you are at the moment, try our web English Level test.
  1. When can I change class levels?
    Students are tested on their arrival and placed in a class based on these results. GEOS Gold Coast also has mid-term and end-of-term tests to check the student’s progress. Students progress based on their level of English language proficiency. If a student would like to change outside of these times, they must sit a promotions test and will be allowed to move to a higher level based on their result.
  1. Can I take a holiday during my studies?
    Yes, if you require a break in the middle of your course, you will need to apply at reception 2 weeks before you wish to go. We can check if it is ok for you.  It will depend on your visa, attendance rate and the length of your course.
  1. What can I do on the weekends?
    Gold Coast is in an ideal location to travel either north or south to explore the best of Australia. We run an optional weekend activity club called Dolphin Club where students can participate in activities with other students.  Please see our activity section under Student Services for more information.
  1. What if I want to move to another city?
    GEOS Gold Coast is part of an international network of schools. This benefits you by allowing you to transfer to other GEOS Schools within australia & New Zealand.  You will be required to provide 4 weeks notice to transfer and your attendance must be over 80%.
  1. Is there a computer room?
    There are 24 modern flat screen computers with broadband internet and also Wi-Fi internet access for GEOS Gold Coast students.
